Case Studies — Web site: Envirowise
Envirowise is the UK Government's business environmental site, providing help and guidance to business on saving money while helping the environment.
In 2000 Taupo won the contract to develop the Envirowise website for the DTI and DEFRA, through the National Physical Laboratory. Taupo delivered the site developed in Domino with a Notes-based content management system for the programme's desktops. The initial development timescales were aggressive, but the site went live exactly on schedule.
One of the key benefits of choosing Taupo’s Domino based solution is the ability to keep content and design separate. This ensures that the site can be updated quickly and cost-effectively. Consequently it has been upgraded and redesigned on four occasions to stay up-to-date with the latest legislation (the Disability Discrimination Act) and technologies (use of CSS and cross browser compatibility).
The site has more than 25,000 hits per day, has user registration and login, and provides an online ordering system for publications, and multiple forms for submissions and requests.
Workflow Solutions and “Stage-Gate Process”: ICI Paints
Taupo has provided development resource to ICI Paints for 6 years and has helped to develop a number of financial and marketing Lotus Notes applications that have been implemented across the world.
Increasingly these workflow applications have been required to control new product or plant approval using a Stage-Gate process for management approval. Typically, these solutions need both sequential and parallel workflows.
The benefit of the Taupo solution is that it can be integrated into any database design within ICI Paints where sequential or parallel workflow with multiple Stage-Gates is required. Thus allowing the application to be utilised across many locations in different continents.
